Comment:

Maren Mercer (Moffitt) passed away in December of 2019.  Gone but not forgotten, we are preserving the comments and photos she left on the SMN68.com website.

I lost my precious husband, Bob, in 2009.

I remarried in 2013 to Larry Mercer, who I met through online dating.  I was able to retire a couple years ago, but feel as busy now as I always did.  The things I dreamed of doing "when I retire . . ."  --- such as going through all the pictures, listening to old 33-1/3 RPM albums, reading some books, and just keeping up with things in general, takes forever!!  I've also been clerk of my church, which almost feels like I'm still working!  But it is nice to be able to set my own schedule, for the most part.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in June.  The activities sound like fun!

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Minister / Life. Leadership Small Business Executive Coach
Comment: A brief update on Ronnie Metsker:

Susan and I married in 1975 and have three wonderful children, two of which are now married.  All three are grads of SM North and K-State.  We live 9/10th mile from the SMN.  Susan is in her 11th year serving on the SM Board of Education, so we are still very involved in our schools, even though we are empty nesters.

I retired after 40 years from KCYFC and now serve people in the biz community as a professional life coach.  My coaching practice provides life, leadership, and small business executive coaching.

I serve on the board of directors of Marillac and Parakaleo Group.  I served two years in the Kansas House and in November 2008, was elected as the Chairman of the Johnson County Republican Party. I look forward to connecting with members of the class of '68.

Comment: After graduation, I went to KU and graduated in 1973 with a BS in journalism and minor in English.  Moved that summer to SF and married Larry J. Mills whom I met while at KU.  Moved to San Diego that year and stayed until divorced in 1979.  Moved back to SF with Dennis, an architect I fell in love with, and we lived in Marin County where we owned two houses.  I was an expert gardener, antique collector, culture buff, and we frequented ballet, symphony, opera, theater, movies, fine dining and had a great social life and lots of friends.  I traveled frequently, going to 23 countries and all states but 5 and spent a lot of time in So. California.  While in SF, I worked my way up from secretary/receptionist to administrative assistant/office manager in several architectural and engineering firms.  In 1989, at the same time as the "big earthquake" I started work as a legal secretary in the Ferry Building for one attorney in intellectual property.  When Dennis and I sold our house in Jan 2000, I until Jan 2000 when I moved back to KC to take care of my parents.  Dad died in a nursing home in 2002, and Mom in the same nursing home in 2006.  I was an orphan (my brother and I do not get along).  When I returned to SF in 2002, I worked downtown in a law firm again, but ended up without a job.  I was recruited by an international company in Oshkosh, WI, all expenses paid and bought and restored a Victorian house.  Moved back to SF in 2007 when I took my last trip abroad to SE Asia with friends.  I ended up becoming a CNA in 2009 and moved in with Dennis in his seaside house in Bodega Bay for a year.  In 2011, I got back together with my ex-husband, and we first lived in Oshkosh, WI, before moving back to Lawrence in 2013.  I worked at JC Penney's for 5 years after retiring, and then became an activities assistant at Neuvant House.  I was a caregiver with Trinity In-home Care from July 2017 until March 2020.   It's been a wonderful journey and sometimes a rocky road--but I have had a magical life.  I do miss my parents--and traveling--and the ocean.
